Painted Lady butterfly sucking nectar from an Aster flower, after its 1000 mile migration from Morocco. This year looks set to be the biggest migration of these butterflies from Africa to England ever, since heavy winter rains in the Atlas mountains provided good food for their young and then hot weather has lured them north. Millions will have made the journey and come autumn they will all be heading back south again.

Two wooden crosses dedicated to unknown seamen washed ashore after HMS Formidable was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast during an exercise at the start of the First World War. Only 199 men survived from a crew of 750. Some fascinating facts about that day can be read here.
